I'm watching Chopped on Food Network, and this is one of the basket ingredients. I almost fell off my chair when they said Spotted Dick. I thought I heard them wrong. It's for real.

Watch more British television! The spotted part refers to the fruit in it and the DICK refers to the word puddick which was like pudding or treacle. My grandmother is Scottish so I've heard it and I watch a lot of UK television. Its not some kind of VD, its pretty good.

There are A LOT of words derived from words nobody uses anymore, they don't even know where some of them originated because they came from local slang.

Yeah. I live in the south where if this showed up on the shelves of a grocery store a group of moms would get together and boycott the store and protest outside until they removed them all from the shelves and made a public apology on the news, twitter, and their FB page.

While I'm thinking about it I have a few crappy photos of a GT I see around town a few times a year when the weather is nice. I think I figured out where he lives. Or I've at least seen him pulling out of the driveway of a very large and expensive house with a 3 car garage and a Range Rover parked in the driveway because in my head the garage is full. I'm always so amazed by the car I forget to pull out my phone.

Oh it is. It's not exactly flavoursome with any sharp tastes but is subtly flavoured with a mix of textures from creamy in the custard, crumply in the cake and a little crunch from the currants.

For something a little more sharp that's where apple crumble and rhubarb crumble with custard come in. The tartiness of the apples or rhubarb or both together, combined with the crisp crunch of the crumble topping and creaminess of the custard really work well and will become a favourite straight away.
